Our marching band has been formally invited to represent New Mexico in next year’s Memorial Day parade in Washington D.C.! Ms. Stott recently learned of the news and suggested we spread the word. The administration at Albuquerque High is excited as well and is investigating how the school can support the band with this endeavor. Make no mistake, the trip will be expensive, though we have eleven months to raise money for the trip. Later this summer, likely at the beginning of marching band camp, Ms. Stott will have more details. A tentative plan, if we were to go, is to have a 4 day, 3 night trip, to allow the students to see what can be seen in Washington, while not performing in the parade. In the meantime, please give some thought to how we can raise funds for the trip as the event will be an opportunity of a lifetime for the marching band students.
While we don’t normally hold booster meetings in the summer, we may try to meet, perhaps only over Zoom, to put our heads together and develop some strategy to bring our fundraising to a higher level.
In the very near term please encourage your band students to participate in the car washes this summer – we still have all the usual expenses for which to raise funds to help the band program — on top of this potential trip to D.C.!
